Using MySpace to promote your business online

Myspace is an amazing social networking community. The popularity was recently unmatched (until facebook blew it straight out of the water), and it continues to grow and strive as one of the most popular sites on the web. But how can you harness that popularity and use it for your business?

More and more businesses have Myspace profiles these days allowing them to keep in closer contact with their customers. Since people with Myspace profiles can search, seek out and add friends to their lists, you are able to search, seek out and add new customers and fans of your product.

You can send messages and/or updates to your friends by:

  • Writing and posting bulletins regularily
  • Writing and posting blogs
  • Posting events in Myspace events calendar
  • Commenting on your friends’ profiles – Some friends even allow you to leave HTML comments so you get noticed.

The great part about posting comments is that friends of your friends who may not be in your friends list will also see your messages, and word of mouth advertising is spread. And if you are a regular blogger, Myspaces’ blog feature should be an easy transition for you. Instead of having a blog hosted on your own website, where people actually have to find your site to come across your blog, your blog is hosted on a hugely popular website with literally billions of people already browsing it.

Myspacers can also subscribe to your blog and be updated the minute you post a new one. When you post a blog on Myspace it can be seen by almost anybody. This is a great chance for exposure.

There is also the group feature which allows you to start a discussion group and quickly update your friends of new sales, new additions to your inventory and other upcoming events.

Here are some more ideas on how you can use Myspace to promote your business:

  • Link to your website on your profile -  Myspace profiles are completely customizable. You are free to add all kinds of css and html to your profile through the edit profile page.
  • Record audio comercials and upload them to a Myspace Music account
  • Upload video comercials and post them to your page -Not only will your video appear within your profile page, but it will be listed on Myspace TV and will be browsed by hundreds of thousands of video hungry viewers.
  • Offer incentives to your friends list -Send out bulletins offering deals to people on your Myspace.
  • Offer Myspace codes on your website – Ask for a link back in return. People who use your codes will link back to you from their profile. If the codes are good a lot of people will use them.
  • Add friends by interest/ region - Generate new potential customers by searching within interest groups or regions if your business is mainly offline.

Myspace is a great way to network, and a great way to promote your business. Its like having a website, mailing list, street team and focus group, all in one little profile. If you have a business or a website and you don’t have a Myspace page, you are already missing out.
