Lemony’s All Awesome Gaming Playlist
The great Philip J. Fry said it best: “It’s Friday night… I have no date, a 3 Liter bottle of Shasta and my all Rush mix tape”. Well I do have Rush in my long list of tunes, but I don’t reserve them for gaming. So what do I listen to on gaming night..which for me is typically Friday and Saturday, for above reasons? Well let’s look at my top 10.
Before we start, I have to explain that my music taste is more based on songs I find…well amusing or just generally happy, than songs that make me think about things or depressed. So with that being said, let’s move on.
10. Rock Lobster – The B-52′s
I’m very fond of this song after first having acknowledged its existence in an episode of Family Guy, that I am sure most of you have seen. I don’t know what does it for me, but probably the smooth base-line mixed with the background singers just makes making gibs a whole lot more fun.
9. Godzilla - Blue Öyster Cult
The riffs in this song are just awesome, and there are like 4 or 5 for every verse. This song feels like you’re just hardcore and gives you a reason to feel like you’re a badass amoung your digital bretheren. It’s not necessarily hardcore by today’s standards, but it seems like a song that would belong in some extreme-paced Japanese game from the 80s with lots of shooting and transforming robots.
8. You Spin Me Right Round (Like a Record Baby) – Dead or Alive
Yes, there is now a…sampled, remixed version of this song for the younger children who have never had the chance to appreciate the original, which is what has become of music today, but the original song, though quite…questionable in sexual orientation is still quite fun to get the blood pumping during gaming sessions.
7. Danger! High Voltage – Electric Six
We’ve all seen the car commercial. Great big sumo wrestlers waxing a car and wipping each other with wet towels, but how many of us have actually realized that the song was pretty kick-ass? Well if you’ve ever been in a situation in an FPS where you’re surrounded by enemies, you can blast your speakers through your mic, and either make them laugh to death, or just use the song to fuel your wrath.
6. Thnks fr th Mmrs – Fall Out Boy
I used to rock out this song during my summer-time WoW phases. Whether through vent to piss off my friends or just to myself, I find it works exceptionally well when doing a CTF map either in WoW or in TF2.
5. Best of You – Foo Fighters
There’s just something about Dave Grohl’s continuous screaming of THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST that makes you want to kill things…
4. Cotton-Eye Joe – Rednex
Modern country songs by Scandinavian people…what could be better as my Team Fortress 2 soundtrack?
3. Boten Anna – Basshunter
Surpringly, I actually find that this song fits me more for gaming than “Vi sitter i Ventrilo och spelar DotA“, or simply “DotA”, which is a song actually about video games. Ironic.
2. Dragostea din tei – O-Zone
Well its widespread over the internet, and the actual entirety of the song makes good fragging sounds.
1. Barbie Girl – Aqua
It’s always the Scandinavian groups that I find do the best for gaming music. Whether it’s because they are just too damn funny for me to listen to or their mad beats, which just make you feel all warm and goey inside. Either way, there is one song that dominates the rest in this field, “Barbie Girl”. Of course it’s a song you’d hear at a certain type of nightclub in San Francisco, but I can help but laugh, cry and enjoy while raging with this song, and that’s why it deserves my most played rank for gaming tunes.

Come on Barbie let’s go party oooh oooh oh yeaah. Nice list, i’m gonna go listen to some Rock Lobster now.
