Legend of Zelda NES Commercial
Ahh the 80′s. I can’t really say anything from experience as I was born right at the end of it and around the same time the Berlin wall collapsed. But from what I’ve learned from older people and movies is the 80′s was a time of Rubix cubes and the infamous mullet. There were some awful things that came out of the 80′s….mainly the mullet, but I digress. Please see for yourself. Released in the 1980′s the first ever Legend of Zelda commercial.
Now I don’t know how everybody else felt about this, so I’m gonna just give my take on how this ad made me feel. I felt as if I had just watched a David Lynch film that was 30 seconds long, twice as impossible to understand and sadly no IMDB too turn to too solve the frustration and anger that I feel. I MEAN COME ON! It’s this little tiny weird guy screaming ZELDA! In what looks to be a tiny boxed prison…that HE NEVER LEAVES! They could have at least been a bit more creative…like had a few more scenes.

And another thing. Why is “Link” doing what looks to be a mixture of horribly performed martial arts mixed with Tai Chi. Link HAS A SWORD! He doesn’t need kung foo…he needs a sharp edge…to cut his grass and collects his rupee’s. It’s always been that simple and yet this commercial just makes no logical sense. It’s just an acid trip that happens to have a man shouting out things convienently from the game Zelda.
And I’m sorry when he says what looks to say “Peabats” in the subtitles…I could have sworn he said penis. And why is Link prancing around like a little girl pretending to stomp fake….somethings…I don’t know…Leevers?
Although that commercial was 30 seconds long…I uh, really think that just needed to start it from 23 seconds…so I guess really only needed to be 7 seconds long.
Shame on you 80′s. I thought I was ready to forgive you about the mullet…but I just don’t know….I just don’t know.
