How Game Developers are Handling The new iPhone 3Gs

iphone_games_thumbOver a million people are already carrying the new iPhone 3GS and with its faster processor and higher speed chipset, its not hard to see why. Because of the single hardware design it is easy for developers to make games which work across all iPhone models, but the new features on the 3GS leaves many developers on the fence about developing for iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS compatability. Games introduced for the 3G platform would work on the new device, but games developed for 3GS might be to much for the 3G phones and touches to manage.

Sega is indicating they will specialize some games to the newer hardware as it comes out, but only the ones that “take full advantage” of the upgraded power of the new 3GS. The popular game developer, Digital Chocolate, is taking a different stance indicating that the current games will just play better on newer devices that emerge due to faster processors or better sound systems. At the forefront of the everchanging mobile gaming market, however, is EA Mobile. EA plans to create new versions of each of their games for each of the new iPod touch or iPhone models that come out so customers can play “no matter which iPhone or iPod touch a consumer has,”.
